Julian Bird OBE

Julian Bird

Julian became Chief Executive of the Society of London Theatre and UK Theatre in November 2010 and is the Executive Producer for The Olivier Awards and UK Theatre Awards.  Prior to his time at SOLT, Julian was the Chief Operating Officer at the Tate.

As well as producing the UK’s major theatrical awards, Julian has recently produced the European premiere of “Sondheim on Sondheim” and the major centenary concert honouring Alan J Lerner, both for the BBC.  He is also the host of weekly show “The Green Room” for Bauer Radio’s new radio channel “Magic at the Musicals”, as well as speaking around the world on theatre and culture.

Julian is actively involved in arts charities including acting as the Chair of both the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford and the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea; and sits on the Government’s new Expert Trade Advisory Group for the Creative Industries, as well as on the West End Partnership Board.

 

Hilary O'Neil

Hilary performs worldwide as a Comedienne, Impressionist & Singer. After training at Laine Theatre Arts her career began as a dancer working with Sir Ken Dodd at the famous London Palladium.  A venue she has proudly performed at six times. Her major TV break was on the hit TV impressionist series Copycats, in which she appeared for two years. From there she appeared on numerous TV shows including The Royal Variety Show, Live from the Palladium, Summertime Special, Night of 100 Stars, two Freddie Starr Series, Des O’Connor Tonight, Celebrity Squares, and many more.

Her West End credits include Acorn Antiques the Musical, written by Victoria Wood & directed by Sir Trevor Nunn, in which Hilary appeared & understudied the roles of “Mrs Overall” and “Miss Babs” played by Julie Walters and Celia Imrie. She also co-starred in the musical Summer Holiday (West End & UK tour), the 60’s musical Shout & the Marx Brothers Comedy, Animal Crackers, at the Lyric Theatre. Hilary now headlines in her one-woman show all over the world on Cunard, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Seabourn, Oceania, Regent, Holland America, Azamara, Cunard & P&O cruise lines, but always comes home to appear in Pantomime!... Oh yes she does! 

On UK tours, she has co -starred alongside Joe Longthorne, Joe Pasquale, Jim Davidson, Brian Conley, Richard Digance & Freddie Starr, even travelling to New Zealand & Australia to support Hale & Pace on their tour. Plus ‘Menopause the Musical’ UK tour Hilary’s work has taken her to entertain the British Troops in Belize and the Falklands and she has enjoyed two glorious UK tours of the musical Hot Flush with Lesley Joseph. Hilary has formed O’Neil Management.

Mykal Rand

Mykal Rand

Mykal is currently Associate Director/Choreographer at Starlight Express in Germany.  He was recently Resident Director/Choreographer at the smash hit musical, Five Guys Named Moe, at a purpose-built theatre on Marble Arch. Just before going into help with the creation for Five Guys Named Moe, he had just finished choreographing a wonderful production of the musical The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin for Theatre Royal Stratford East. Before this Mykal was working on the new production of Show Boat at The New London Theatre as Charlie.

Director and Choreographer credits include Rent, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, Smokey Joes Café, Fame, Supernatural, Purlie, Grease, Passion, Release the Beat, and Golden Boy.

Mykal Rand - Starlight Express

Mykal, has performed in Starlight Express in London, Japan, Germany, the UK Tour, Asian Tour and New Zealand Tour, where he was also Associate Director/Choreographer. Parts played include Rusty, Poppa and Electra. Mykal can also be heard on the soundtrack of Starlight Express, Bochum, in the role of Electra for the 25th Anniversary.
Other performance credits include, Big Moe and Nomax in Five Guys Named Moe, Simba in The Lion King, Gitlow in Purlie, The Boss in Hot Stuff, Ken in Smokey Joes Café, Rhythm Boy, Understudy Mister Magix in My One & Only, Stretch in Oh! What a Night.
Mykal has also been involved in the musical Rent since it first arrived in the UK, understudying and playing the roles of Tom Collins, Benny and Angel on numerous occasions in the Original West End production at the Shaftesbury Theatre. He also played Collins in Dublin, the UK Tour and at The Prince of Wales Theatre in London, which he also choreographed.

Mykal can also be seen playing an Apostle in the award-winning DVD of Jesus Christ Superstar, produced by The Really Useful Video Company.

Hayley is perhaps best known for her portrayal as Del Dingle in Emmerdale and Andrea Beckett in Coronation Street and for winning the fifth series of ITV1’s Dancing on Ice.

Ben trained at the Guildford School of Acting.

In the West End Ben has played ‘Eugene’ in GREASE, ‘Inventor’ in CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, ‘Roger The Cabin Boy’ in DAME EDNA, THE SPECTACLE and ‘Victor Saville’ in OVER MY SHOULDER; THE JESSIE MATTHEWS STORY.

On tour Ben played ‘Lumiere’ in DISNEY’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, 'Noël Coward' in NOËL AND GERTIE, 'PC Boot' in SALAD DAYS, 'Teddy Shapiro' in SOPHIE TUCKERS ONE NIGHT STAND, TOMFOOLERY, Glenn Miller in BUGLE BOY and was the alternate ‘Joseph’ in JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT. He was also the musical director and performed in A SPOONFUL OF SHERMAN, a revue based on the works of The Sherman Brothers.

A panto regular Ben has appeared as 'Ugly Sister' for QDOS in CINDERELLA (Hastings, High Wycombe twice, Dartford, Bradford, Northampton, Bristol, Milton Keynes, Plymouth and Wolverhampton twice!!) alongside the likes of The Krankies, Lesley Joseph, Lynda Bellingham, Brian Conley, Gok WAN, Stefan Dennis, Jimmy Osmond, Billy Pearce, Bradley Walsh, Julian Clary and Brendan from Coach Trip!! In Music Hall he has appeared with the Players Theatre, Leeds City Varieties, Hiss and Boo and The Paper Mill Theatre Company.

His one man shows AND THERE WAS MUSIC, TAKING STOCK, CRACKERS AND COWARD and THE LAND OF MAKE BELIEVE have played sell-out engagements in London at The Pheasantry and Crazy Coqs, across the UK, in the Far East and at New York’s FEINSTEIN’S @54 BELOW.
